Make-Up Assignments

 

How do I Know if I Need to do a Make-Up Assignment?

 

You have to complete a make-up assignment if you missed one of the following events:

 

  • After School Rehearsal (excluding Kings Dominion or Hershey Park rehearsals)

  • A Concert

    • You also must perform the concert in it's entirety for Mr. Patterson and write a review of your performance as described below.

  • Any other mandatory after school activity or performance as outlined in the band handbook.

 

What is the Make-Up Assignment?

 

Missed After School Rehearsal:

You will have 3 options of make-up assignments to choose from. You can find these under the "More" tab at the top of this page as well as in the band room. Please note that if you missed a concert, you will have to complete one of the make-up assignments below as well as the other assignment below:

  1. Relaxation Videos

  2. Composer Report

  3. Music Through Time

 

Missed Concert:

You must complete one of the options above (Relaxation Video, Composer Report, or Music Through Time) as well as complete a review consisting of the following:

  1. What did you think of your performance that you did for Mr. Patterson? (5 sentences)

  2. What were three of your strenghts?

  3. What were three of your weaknesses?

  4. How do you tink your performance would have been different if it was with the band instead of individually? (5 sentences)

  5. Using measure numbers, point out at least 2 areas in each piece of music that you need to improve upon.

 

****Please note that the make-up assignment is not a punishment; it is a way for the student to earn the same grade as all other students who were able to attend the concert/rehearsal.****

 

FAQ

 

  1. What if I was sick? What if it was a family emergency? Do I still have to do the make-up assignment?

    1. ​Yes. It is only fair to the students who attended the rehearsal and did the work.

  2. What if I missed more than one rehearsal? Do I have to do only one make-up assignment or more?

    1. The number of rehearsals you missed should equal the number of make-up assignments you complete. If you miss 2 rehearsals, you must complete 2 make-up assignments.

  3. If I have to do more than one make-up assignment, can I do the same type (two composer reports)?

    1. No. You must choose two different types of make-up assignments. So if you miss two rehearsals, you could do the relaxation video and composer report.
