Accomplishments

 

The 6th grade band at Thornburg Middle School has received many accolades over the years:

 

Kings Dominion Festival of Music 2013: Overall rating of 1 (Superior); Straight 1's (1 from every judge) Guest judge- Col. Leonard

 

 

 

Kings Dominion Festival of Music 2014: Overall rating of 1 (Superior); Straight 1's (1 from every judge). Guest judge- David Shaffer. David Shaffer came on stage to talk with the kids to tell them how impressed he was, and how they played his composition (Frenzy) wonderfully.

 

 

 

 

Kings Dominion Festival of Music 2015: Overall rating of 1 (Superior); Straight 1's (1 from every judge). Guest judge- Samuel Hazo

 

 

 

Kings Dominion Festival of Music 2016: Overall rating of 1 (Superior); Straight 1's (1 from every judge). Guest judge- Brian Balmages. Brian Balmages came on stage to talk with the kids afterwards; he told them the following: "There is a MAJOR problem..... you guys do not sound like a 6th grade band.

 

 

 

Kings Dominion Festival of Music 2017: Overall rating of 1 (Superior); Straight 1's (1 from every judge). Guest judge- David Holsinger. Students received a 98/100 from two judges and a 97/100 from the third judge, making for the highest score any band has ever had at the Kings Dominion Festival of Music!

 

 

 

 

Kings Dominion Festival of Music 2018: Overall rating of 1 (superior); Straight 1's (1 from every judge). Guest judge- Dennis Zeisler. Students received a 96/100 from two judges and a 97/100 from another judge. Judge's comments included: "If I close my eyes and just listen, I would NOT think this is a 6th grade band playing." and "The only reason I know this is a 6th grade band is because of your heights!"
