TMS 6th Grade Band

The Thornburg Middle School 6th grade band is open to all upcoming 5th graders who will be attending Thornburg Middle School. The 6th grade band performs at the Winter Concert, Spring concert, and the Kings Dominion Festival of Music. I expect that by the end of the year, 6th grade band students will be able to:

• Experience success in band

• Demonstrate proper playing technique (characeristic tone quality, proper hand position and embouchure, etc.) on their instrument of choice

• Play their Bb, F, and Eb concert scales

• Play a 1 octave chromatic scale

• Display knowledge of basic music theory such as rhythm, note-reading, and musical terms

• Recall positive performance experience through a Winter Concert, Spring Concert, and Assessment

• Feel confident and excited in moving onto the next level of band

• Be able to sight-read music using basic music theory knowledge

• Live up to the title of "musician."
